You can choose from our surf houses in "Caleta de Famara" inside Famara Natural Park away from all the mass tourism and only 100m from one of the most paradisiacal beaches in Lanzarote (6km of fine sand). Here you can enjoy a great kitesurfing holiday in comfort, kiting and surfing in the crystal warm waters of Lanzarote. Packages available are beginner packages, intermediate packages, advanced packages and a combined kitesurfing and surfing/diving/windsurfing Package.
This kitesurfing course covers all the IKO accreditated exercises from flanking the kite to body dragging. It's essential that you know how to water start and have complete control over the kite on the beach.
This Kite Camp is aimed at those of you who wish to learn Kitesurfing on the safest and most fun manner on one of the most beautiful and uncrowned spots in Europe. In brief the course will cover, safety, kite set up, flying skills (un hooked and hooked), launching and landing, theory of effects of wind, space awareness, body dragging and self rescue with initial water starting techniques(un hooked and hooked). The goal of this camp is for the camper to become a self sufficient, knowledgeable and safe rider ready to enjoy and practice kitesurfing on your own and to cover all the steps up until IKO level 2 certification (depending on student's learning curve). Obtain your IKO level 1 & level 2.
The Water starter course is also for those that have completed IKO level 1 or 2, are fully knowledgeable and competent on all the steps covered on the IKO level 1 or 2, know all the land work, body dragged, tried to water start (un-hooked and hooked) and are finding that you are rolling in the water pre launch and just not getting anywhere, totally hooked on Kite surfing though!
The Water starter gives you on going coaching to improve body positioning, kite and power control, better board and edging technique and aims to get you up on the board every time and kite surfing out and back, maybe downwind but grinning away nevertheless!
You should only apply to this intermediate level course only if you have fully completed all the steps on IKO level 1 or up to IKO level 2.
There are several techniques that we teach you to control the kite. First of all, you should learn how to control the kite when you have fallen in water from your board. We practice by using your kite to drag in water behind it and learn to control the kite. You will be using a harness to shift the pull from your hands to your body. Next step is to learn how to start from water and how to control the kite while doing this.
Normally, you will start by positioning yourself in water on your back with the board in front of you and the kite floating above you. After the kit gains power, you will be pulled out of the water forward on the board. Also learn how to sustain the speed on the board. This is an important part of learning how to control the kite. When on the board, maintain the kite in front of yourself and try to feel the right position to the wind window.
Next, but not last, we will teach you how to control the kite while traveling upwind and downwind. Both of these techniques are important. Only once you have learned the basics of how to control the kite you should continue to the more advanced techniques and tricks. Remember that you should always be in control, not matter what trick you are performing.
Anyway enough gabbing, come and join the team, and find out for yourself how amazing kitesurfing in Lanzarote is! Contact us now.
Guidelines:
Watch the weather conditions. It is important to understand the weather and the effects of strong wind and how it can play havoc on avid kitesurfers.
Other guidelines you will learn along the way will be important and somewhat common knowledge but it is good to go over the basics to make sure you and the people around you remain safe as you launch.
As with any good sport there is technique. One of the techniques kitesurfers must understand is how to manipulate the board you are standing on with the kite bar in your hands. Footwork will eventually become very natural and you will be cutting corners, dodging back and forth, jibing and jumping at a synapse.
When starting out in kitesurfing there are certain fundamentals the trainer will go over with you. Don’t expect to get up and start jumping 20 feet in the air. You must be a bit pragmatic. Your first experience may be on dry land putting your feet in the bindings or foot straps. Once you feel comfortable you will notice how easy it is to turn without having to hold onto a kite. You may then be expected to hold the kite on a bar while moving your feet back and forth simulating a ocean ride.
Keeping your body upright and level with the board, knees slightly bent and arms holding the bar, you are in the right position to start. You may want to have a buddy or someone who knows how to launch with you on your first event. Once you are upright and holding on get ready, the wind may sweep you right off of your feet should you not be expecting it. Get ready for the first adrenaline rush kitesurfing has to offer.
One of the most popular tricks is the jump. Most beginners learn this technique in the first lesson. Should you have mastered its technique early on you will find many other tricks are fairly easy to do. Jibing and looping will become second nature once you master these you can easily switch upwind with no problem. You will find there is very little you cannot do once you actually understanding the footing and balance involved.
Should you have previous experience with skiing or skateboarding you will pick up kitesurfing with ease. Of course the environment will differ greatly but the ability to keep your balance will not be difficult. You should not mix jumps and tricks you can do on a skateboard out on the water.
